This past week was very busy for me. My son decided to start getting the counseling he needs. My mother finally got in to have her gallbladder removed (lap chole they call it). No longer a huge wound to the abdomen, but just three small stabs where the laparascope enters to guide the surgeon to remove the offending organ. It was daycare surgery, admission at 7:30 a.m. and into the OR at 8 a.m. for the operation. I went to a restaurant for bacon and eggs (a rare treat) and drove home to tend to household chores and try to relax. I phoned the nurses' station at 2 p.m. to see how mom was doing and they told me if I wanted to come to see her and get her ready to come home, I could. Mom felt well enough to receive a visitor just prior to leaving the hospital and then I got her home to bed. She was eager for the comfort of her own bed and promptly fell asleep again. The next day my nephew (her grandson) came to visit. We ordered Wendy's takeout and mom was actually able to eat a baked potato and a bit of salad and chicken. I continued as usual typing for the local doctors, but took four days off work from my online medical transcription job. I am sure glad I did. I guess that is about all I can think of at the moment. Mom will be 80 next week and I am glad she will be feeling better in order to celebrate. I bought a lovely Thanksgiving centrepiece and fall tablecloth for the dining room table for her Birthday, which happens to land on Thanksgiving Day this year. (The Canadian Thanksgiving, which falls on October 10th. )

My mom and I have watched Coronation Street for about 15 years now. But recently we find ourselves shaking our heads and asking ourselves why we still watch it. It certainly isn't dull, I'll say that much for the show these days. It's hard to know who is the worst bitch on the show. Is it Blanche Hunt, the sour old biddy? Is it Maya, the woman shunned? It is Tracy Barlow, who is always out to get Karen? Karen is a bit crazy, but she isn't quite as vicious as Tracy. I wonder if there has been a poll to see what viewers think? I should check the British Web sites to see, but then I would read the "spoilers" and any surprises would be ruined, because the show in Britain is about 3 months ahead of the show in Canada. Would you believe it? I am going to shut down Blogger because the show begins in 5 minutes. Talk you ya'll later. Cheerio and terah!

There is going to be an elementary school reunion next May off all the students who attended the opening year of Brentwood Park Elementary School in North Burnaby, BC, Canada.
I was in that class of 1955. I started grade one that year. Here is the class photo from 1955.

I prefer to be able to write this way - freelance. I have been feeling rather crummy today and told the company I am contracted with that I could not work full-time today, as I had a headache. I took a Tylenol No. 3 and went to bed for a couple of hours with an icepack behind my neck. I started to feel better around 4 p.m. so I transcribed for an hour or so. Then I reheated yesterday's pizza and had that with cole slaw for dinner. I feel somewhat better now.
If I had a job as a writer, I would feel pressured to come up with a readable article every week or every day. Doing that is much more difficult that blogging in one's own way in one's own time. I have really written nothing of consequence here tonight, but I just wanted to log on and write something. My computer is running slowly and I think I need to run scan disk tonight.
Bye for now.

My new web cam

My cousin and I managed to link up and have a visit on web cam today.  It was very exciting.  One thing you have to do though is wait for one person to speak and when he or she is finished, you can reply.  You can not talk to each other as you would on the telephone.  It is more like talking on a CB or marine band radio.  I am very excited about
the possibilities for future communications with family from out of town.  The challenge is to convince them to purchase and enable the use of web cams on their computers.  For as little as $50 one can purchase the Logitech web chat camera.  They go on sale periodically for as little as $40 with a mail-in rebate.
