I attended a writer's group meeting last Thursday evening and was pleasantly surprised that there was a good turnout of about 40 people. There were an amazing number of men in attendance too. Most of the people were middle aged, which I found interesting. Many were published writers. I hope by mixing with these people, I might get the encouragement I need to get published myself. It is not that I have never been published, I have written many letters to the editor of newspapers and short articles for amateur small-town newspapers, but I have never been paid hard cash for all my efforts. I have been told by many people that I write well, hence this blog. I have written many letters to friends and e-mails also.
My career as a medical transcriptionist isn't bringing the income that I had hoped it would. I have been at this for 10 years now and still cannot make a decent living at it. I am good at it, but there are currently more trained MTs that jobs and with overseas outsourcing to India and the Phillipines, good paying jobs are hard to come by. Large corporations are talking over the online transcription industry so it is difficult to compete with them. Hopefully, I can get my long hoped for book finished and published. The organization of the chapters is a big challenge. Even arranging all my tidbit documents into order is a huge task.
I am going to shut down for the night now, as I am feeling quite tired these days. I eagerly await spring so that I can go to the local swimming pool on Friday afternoons and get more exercise. I planned to go for a short walk this afternoon, but it was raining again. It has rained every day all day (with only short reprieves) for at least a week now.
